The Fearrington Village Singers, under the professional direction of Matt Fry, will present their annual holiday concert at The Barn in Fearrington Village on Wednesday, December 7, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 and are available at the door.
This year’s holiday concert is titled “Winter Light” and features a selection of popular and traditional music to lift spirits and celebrate the joy of the season.
The 69-member Fearrington Village Singers (FVS) community chorus produces annual holiday and spring concerts for the entertainment and enjoyment of friends, neighbors, families and the singers themselves. FVS concerts have wide audience appeal and include standards, contemporary songs, and classical selections.
Director Matt Fry teaches chorus and drama at Jordan Matthews High School in Siler City. He is a graduate of Missouri Western State University, where he was named Outstanding Graduate in Vocal Music. Since relocating to North Carolina in 2000, Fry has sung with the Duke Chapel Choir and SONAM (the Society of New and Ancient Music). During his career, he has performed at Carnegie Hall, the Walt Disney Center, and venues in South Africa, Namibia, Brazil and Austria.
Accompanist Vera Graye is an honors graduate of Illinois Wesleyan University in Music Education and Piano. In addition to singing with the Fearrington Village Singers, she sings in The Pollyfonix, a Fearrington Village a cappella group.
Accompanist Dee Stout studied piano with Dr. Nancy Wurtele at Salem College in Winston-Salem where she received a Bachelor of Music degree with a major in Music Education. She also holds a Master’s degree in Education from UNC-Greensboro.
