The Common Woman Chorus (CWC) and the Triangle Gay Men’s Chorus (TGMC) will present a monumental concert entitled, Quiet No More: A Choral Celebration of Stonewall. This event will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the 1969 Stonewall Inn Uprising, the catalyst for the modern LGBTQ+ movement for civil rights and the inspiration for the annual celebration of LGBTQ+ Pride.
The program will feature several songs of protest, liberation and inspiration as well as the title music suite, “Quiet No More: A Choral Celebration of Stonewall” performed by CWC, TGMC and their special guests the Triad Pride Men’s and Women’s Choruses. Over a 100 voices will come together to commemorate the events that took place in New York City on June 28, 1969 and honor the courage of early, social justice pioneers.
This “Quiet No More” music suite is co-commissioned by the New York Gay Men’s Chorus and Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles and will be performed by choruses throughout the US in 2019 in the largest collaboration in the history of LGBTQ+ choruses.
Tickets are on sale now for $35, $25 and $15 at http://www.carolinatheatre.org/tickets. A portion of concert proceeds will benefit the LGBTQ Center of Durham and LGBT Center of Raleigh.
This performance in Fletcher Hall is made possible in part by a grant from the Durham Arts Council’s Fletcher Performing Arts Fund of the Triangle Community Foundation.
