Choral and orchestral pieces reflecting on life and love. Fern Hill is a poem by Dylan Thomas that “sings joyously of youth and its keen perceptions,” according to John Corigliano. Corigliano, an admirer of the Welsh poet, was irresistibly drawn to translate Thomas’ music into his own. Experience the tenderness of Five Hebrew Love Songs, which captures intimate moments shared between Eric Whitacre and his girlfriend-at-the-time Hila Plitmann. Journey through a unknown yet seemingly familiar utopian garden in Kevin Padworski’s Reflections from a Mexican Garden, which premiered just over one year ago at Carnegie Hall. Finally, the concert closes with The Awakening, Joseph Martin’s reflection on the power of music to inspire and uplift us. Through the transcendent power of music, we move toward reconciliation and love. Let Music Live!
