Bull City A Cappella Slam IV Concert

An evening of exceptional a cappella music will take place in the Bull City A Cappella Slam IV concert to take place at East Chapel Hill H.S. in Chapel Hill on Sat., Dec. 9th. The event will include two shows which will be held at 3:00 p.m. and again at 7:00 p.m.

The concert will be headlined by the Durham-based Heart of Carolina A Cappella (HCA) chorus of the Central Carolina Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society and a perennial champion in NSC Carolinas District chorus competition.

Why is the Bull City A Cappella Slam IV event being held at East Chapel Hill High School this year?

For the past three years, HCA’s artistic and musical director, Dr. William Adams has provided 90-minute Master Classes with vocal music departments at each of our previous Slam events: Northern High School, Riverside High School, and Durham Academy, all Durham Co.-based schools

For our Bull City A Cappella Slam IV this year, Dr. Adams and our featured quartet, GQ, will be working with three ECHHS a cappella groups, which will also be performing at the 3 p.m. Matinee event. They include:

  • The Alley Cats, ECHHS’s premier pop female student a cappella group.
  • ECHHS’s newest, student-run, extracurricular, mixed a cappella group, the Scattertones.
  • The Chiefs of Staff are ECHHS’s premier, all-male student a cappella group.

The featured guest quartet for the event, GQ, a national winning Sweet Adeline’s International quartet from Baltimore, MD, will perform at both the Matinee and Evening Event. The evening concert will also include a performance by The UNC Clef Hangers, Carolina’s oldest a cappella singing group.

In addition, on both programs will be the first appearance of a new HCA quartet, Anecdote, a recent third place winner in NSC district quartet contest. Also appearing for the first time will be HCA’s “A Cappella for Everyone” mixed chorus of men and women’s voices.

Tickets are now on sale at the chapter’s www.hcamusic.org website or at the door of the event:

Matinee tickets are $15, while evening performance tickets are $20. Part of the proceeds from the event are donated to HCA’s altruistic partner, The Urban Ministries of Durham.
