Hailed by critics as Raleigh’s premier choral ensemble, the North Carolina Master Chorale consists of a 160-voice Symphonic Choir, a smaller Chamber Choir, and a Youth Choir for high school students. Founded in 1942 as the Raleigh Oratorio Society, the Master Chorale has spread exceptional choral music throughout the Triangle for over 80 years.
The NC Master Chorale Youth Choir provides a professionally directed environment for high school musicians (grades 9-12) from across the Triangle to study, prepare, and perform choral music at the highest level. A part of the NC Master Chorale family and hosted by NC State University's Department of Performing Arts & Technology, the ensemble performs often with the NCMC Symphonic Chorus and has become a regular feature on the NC Master Chorale's annual holiday show, Joy of the Season, in Meymandi Concert Hall. Singers in the ensemble are selected by audition and represent high school choral programs and home-schooled students from across Wake, Durham, and the surrounding counties.
North Carolina Opera is a new company formed from the merger of Opera Company of North Carolina and Capital Opera Raleigh. NCO will produce large, main-stage productions as well performances in a variety of venues across the Triangle. Audiences will hear singers of national and international renown, along with the finest talent from across the state. The new company will provide a nurturing environment for young singers, school-based performances, and listening and learning opportunities for all ages.
Northeast Piedmont Chorale performs in the northeast piedmont area of North Carolina, including Granville, Vance, Warren, Franklin and Wake counties. The Chorale presents a series of Christmas concerts and a series of spring concerts each year.
One of The Triangle area's oldest a cappella choruses. Since 1975 we've been entertaining audiences in central NC with popular tunes and lush harmonies. Oak City Voices is a new, women’s chorus in the Triangle area. We will be performing a richly varied repertoire from swing to folk, and from classical to contemporary. Our goal is to identify exemplary works, promote them, and embrace our love of music through song. Each concert series includes two performances at assisted living facilities free of charge, and a performance for the public, for which we charge admission. We also perform at community events as the members’ schedules allow.
The Oakwood Waits are Raleigh’s original Victorian-costumed professional caroling ensemble of 17 voices, featuring since 1984 a multifaceted repertoire of carols, holiday favorites and non-seasonal vocal music for any occasion. Available for hire for private and public events, the Waits present an annual benefit concert in December, and can be seen free-of-charge in Raleigh’s Historic Oakwood neighborhood at various times during the holiday season.
Piedmont Chamber Singers is a volunteer ensemble with up to 32 members, which has existed for over 30 years in Winston-Salem. PCS presents five concerts each season, plus other special appearances, in Winston-Salem and elsewhere in the region. Concert repertoire ranges from a cappella to fully orchestrated, including music from perennial favorites by Bach, Handel, Mozart and Haydn, to modern masters such as Britten, Copland and Poulenc, to Winston-Salem’s own resident composers, Dan Locklair, Kenneth Frazelle, William Stevens, Margaret Sandresky and Doug Borwick.
Piedmont Opera produces the highest quality opera productions possible by using international, national, regional and local professional singers and technicians. Piedmont Opera currently attracts patrons from 16 states and communities throughout the Piedmont, Upstate, and Virginia. Since 1978, Piedmont Opera has performed over 48 different productions to an audience of over 150,000 people. In addition to two regularly scheduled productions each year, Piedmont Opera also conducts a wide variety of educational and outreach programs.
The Rocky Mount Chamber Choir is a mixed chorus of 25 singers that was founded in March, 2015. The ensemble's repertoire is primarily classical, but also includes popular and jazz works as well. RMCC presents four to six concerts per season, with six rehearsals prior to each concert. Auditions are required.
