Binkley Memorial Baptist Church is hosting a Children’s Choir Workshop Weekend from March 10 – 12. The event is free of charge, open to the community, and will be held at Binkley Memorial Baptist Church in Chapel Hill. The workshop weekend is designed for children 4 years old through 5th grade and is intended to provide an opportunity for children who love to sing to learn more about music and the voice. The weekend will consist of a Friday evening pizza dinner (from 6-8) for the children and their parents followed by singing, musical games, and crafts. Saturday, from 9:30-2:00, the children will enjoy learning two new pieces of music, more crafts and music related learning games, a musical instrument petting zoo, an introduction to handbells, and lunch. Sunday morning the children are invited to sing the new pieces they have learned in the 11:00 service at Binkley.
Binkley is delighted to be able to offer two very fine and talented guest clinicians, Colleen Kingston and Roberta Thomason, to lead this exciting weekend event.
Miss Kingston is a veteran music teacher of the Atlanta metro schools program, a musical director of the children’s music program at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Atlanta and an accomplished vocalist for numerous ensembles. Miss Kingston is a graduate of Emory University and holds a B.A. in Music.
Miss Thomason has over 30 years of experience as a music educator and choral director and is the Artistic Director of Cary Youth Voices. She has also directed church choral ensembles of all ages, with particular emphasis on involving children in choral activities. She is an honors graduate of Furman University, with a degree in music education and choral certification at both elementary and secondary levels.
