Durham Community Chorale Brings A Taste of Jazz to Durham

The Durham Community Chorale, directed by Melody Zentner, is proud to announce their 30th Anniversary concert A Taste of Jazz. The concert will be held Sunday, April 30, 2017, at 4:30 pm at The Carolina Theatre, 309 Morgan Street, Durham, NC 27702.

Pre-concert music provided by the Pete Joyner Quartet and the New Horizon Swing Band. The concert features performances by the Chorale, the Choraleers, the combo Shades of Blue, and special improv pieces by 6th grader Zebee Jewell-Alibhai on soprano saxophone.

The music for this anniversary concert covers the many eras of jazz’s history. Vocal arrangements of Gettin’ in the Mood, Fly Me to the Moon, Georgia On My Mind, Take Five, Star Dust, and The Shadow of Your Smile are just a few of the pieces on the program. Jazz styles such as blues, swing, and samba will also be featured.

Each concert the Durham Community Chorale sponsors an area non-profit to help raise funds and awareness. This spring the Chorale is featuring Music Maker Relief Foundation for their involvement with area jazz musicians. Come help us celebrate the rich history of Jazz in Durham, NC.

All seating is general admission. Tickets are available directly from Chorale members or through the Carolina Theatre Box Office. Ticket price is $15.00.
